Description
Autumn has always been my favourite time of year for the gorgeous golden colours and Bodnant gardens really does come to life at this time of year; although it is best known for its laburnum arch that flowers in the late spring. It was a typical wet and cloudy October day when we visited but it did have its perks; there was barely anyone else there that day. I didn't really set out with a plan for this particular photo, it was a perfect example of a happy accident. I just happened to love the way this little boathouse stood lonely at the waters edge, surrounded by the autumn colours and perfectly reflected in the water. I was just going to snap a practise shot of it since I'd hired a 24-70mm lens to have a play around with and right as I pressed down the shutter my dog, Ivaar, stood up on the rail to have a look at what I was up to on the other side of the pond. It was a perfect moment. The editing on this one was very much a stylistic choice. I always felt that the soft texture of the leaves gave the image an almost traditional media look and so I decided to try a different approach to my usual editing style and push that soft painterly texture even further.
