Shompole Wilderness Hide, Kenya
Canon R5ii with RF 70-200 2.8
In the dead of night, a hyena emerges from the darkness to drink from a waterhole. His stance, furtive glances and open jawed expression added to the feeling that he embodied the reputation hyenas are renowned for. I was photographing overnight in a hide overlooking the waterhole. There was an adjustable system of lights we could use which beautifully illuminated the dust and brought great atmosphere to the scene. I used spot metering to compensate for the darkness. Settings: 1/100 ISO 4000 F.28
