A blue shark is followed by a pilot fish approximately 20 miles off the coast of Penzance, Cornwall. Pilot fish are commonly found swimming alongside large marine animals such as sharks, rays and turtles, using them for protection from predators and feeding on scraps of food and small parasites. Blue sharks are among the most wide-ranging shark species in the world, inhabiting temperate and tropical oceans, and are seasonal visitors to UK waters during the summer months.
