Description
This image forms part of The Wrestlers, my wider documentary project exploring independent professional wrestling. Taken at the beginning of a match, it captures the wrestlers locked in their opening grapple, each pushing to gain the advantage. Although professional wrestling is a performance and the outcome is predetermined backstage, the physical exertion from the wrestlers and suspense experienced by the audience are real. I wanted to capture that uncertainty, the moment when the crowd is waiting to discover who will take the upper hand.
