Le Chemin du Curé, Beaufortain, Savoie, France
Leica Q2 Monochrom
An ultrarunner negotiates Le Chemin du Curé, a dramatic section of the TDS race through the French Alps. I positioned myself very close to the ground, deliberately using the rock formation to frame the athlete and placing the runner against the clear sky to create a strong silhouette. My intention was to emphasise the scale of the landscape and reduce the runner to a small human presence moving through this imposing mountain environment. Photographed using a Leica Q2 Monochrom with a fixed 28mm Summilux f/1.7 lens. ISO 200, 1/1250 sec at f/6.3. The exposure was deliberately held for the highlights, allowing the rock and runner to fall into deep shadow and create the graphic silhouette.
