Low Light Photography
Barrowland, Glasgow
Sony A7 III, Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 lens and a tripod
While photographing outside the Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow, I was approached by a security guard who kindly asked if I could take his photograph beneath the iconic neon sign. As I worked, I noticed the sign reflected across the curved surface of a car parked nearby, transforming the familiar lettering and stars into an abstract pattern of colour, shape and light. After taking the portrait, I spent some time exploring the reflections and experimenting with different angles. This frame was one of my favourites from the evening, capturing the intense reds, greens and blues of the Barrowland neon while turning the car itself into a canvas for the light. It was an unplanned moment that came from simply slowing down and looking beyond the obvious subject.
