Kenya, Rift Valley
Nikon Z9, Nikor 70-200mm
For years, I had devoted countless nights and hundreds of hours to photographing wildlife from hides, always hoping a big cat might appear. Until this night in Kenya’s Rift Valley, none ever had. Eleven hours into the session, as the sky began to pale before dawn, a lioness emerged silently from the darkness with five cubs following behind her. They approached the waterhole together and, for a few brief moments, lined up side by side to drink. From the low viewpoint of the hide, I was able to frame all six lions against the darkness, their reflections completing a scene that made every empty memory card and sleepless night worthwhile.
