Description
This image shows a tiny glacial river on its final journey before reaching the sea on Iceland’s south-west coast. The vibrant colours are created by iron and other minerals that are flushed into the acidic water draining the surrounding volcanic soils. The heavy load of suspended sediment creates beautiful, swirling patterns in the slow-flowing water. These patterns are totally unique at any one time, depending upon factors such as the weather, the land-use activities in the surrounding catchment and the time of year. Using satellite mapping tools, I targeted locations that showed potential. Hovering my drone in the same position, I gently rotated the camera head to take multiple overlapping images, covering the area of the wetland that I had mapped out. I stitched 17 individual photographs together in post-processing to create this final image.
