Description
A 1970s water tower engineered to hold thousands of litres appears, from this angle, to defy gravity entirely. Its saucer-like profile owes nothing to the glass-box minimalism of 21st-century architecture — instead it belongs to an older, stranger lineage of retro-futurism, as if a piece of last century's imagined future had simply been left standing. Isolating the disc against clear sky turns a piece of municipal infrastructure into something closer to sculpture, or spacecraft.
