Prosopocolius Astocoides or commonly known as the stag beetle -- Male stag beetles are easily recognised by their large, powerful mandibles which they use for fighting rival males and impressing females. Their heads and thoraxes are typically shiny black, and their wing cases are chestnut brown. In some regions, like the UK, the European stag beetle (Lucanus cervus) is a protected species due to habitat loss and other factors affecting its population.
