Unarguably, paper is the most versatile of all materials. It is non-woven and can be made not only from trees, but also sugar beet, cotton knickers, coffee cups, nettles or ferns, from macerated vegetables or recycled from waste paper... the list keeps growing. It can be formed into a shape or textured to give surface protection and to give a sensory feeling. Without polluting laminates, it breaks down naturally. It can be recycled up to 7 times. The word "paper" etymologically derives from papyrus (Cyperus papyrus plant) in Egypt and likely used as early as 3000CE. The first paper production reportedly originates from China, developed in the Eastern Han period (25–220 AD) for record keeping by the administrators. This paper notecard is blind embossed with letters. The bumps of the letters are a joy to touch. The technology of making paper has not changed much since production first began. This feather is a powerful symbol that signifies honour and a connection between the Creator. The symbolism of a feather is that of trust, honour, strength, wisdom, power, and freedom. I have worked in paper for 30 years and it remains my favourite choice of material.
