I needed some stark, eye-catching imagery to illustrate an editorial feature on whisky for CNET.com and I had an idea for this image with a whisky glass. Shot at home, I used black perspex as a base and just a roll of diffusion material as the background, positioning my light to create a soft gradient. I intentionally wanted to keep the set monochromatic so as to allow the vibrant orange of the whisky to stand out from the scene. To create the swirl effect I simply shot a static image, with one when I swirled the whisky in the glass, blending them together just like using focus stacking in macro photography to create the final effect. The result is a clean, stark shot that really allows the whisky in the glass to shine as the hero of the story. The image was shot at f/14, ISO 100, 1/200s
