Zimanga Private Game Reserve
Canon 7D MkII, EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM, ISO 2500, f/2.8, 1/250s, 45mm
Zimanga Private Game Reserve is the first reserve in Africa designed for avid safari enthusiasts whilst simultaneously satisfying the needs of modern wildlife photographers and there is no other place like it. State of the art photographic hides have been built to give unique photographic opportunities. This image was taken in one of the overnight hides which is built into a waterhole where your camera is a few centimetres above the water level and only a few metres away from the drinking edge. You spend 19 hours sat waiting to see what will come to drink. Each side of the hide has LED floodlights which allows you to photograph throughout the night. On this night a whole herd of Elephants came in for a drink. I am at eye level with their toes and looking up at these giants. As the adults came in for a drink, the calves popped out in between their legs being protected by their elders. Using silent and single shot mode on the camera was paramount. Shooting at a low shutter speed and high ISO was challenging. Trying not to get too excited and causing camera shake was paramount to give you the best chance.
