Manta Point, Nusa Penida, Indonesia
DJI Mavic Pro
Nusa Penida was somewhere that really took my breath away. The waters are so rich and teaming with wildlife that you can almost always see manta rays from the cliffs. This was the first time I had ever seen a manta ray and of course I had to take my drone up to get a better view. This 5-7m manta ray should give some perspective for just how big this place is. Seeing such giant animals in landscapes like this really gives you a sense of how big our oceans are. Unfortunately mantas are targeted by fisheries for food and the use of their gill rakers in Chinese medicine. It’s been estimated that about 30% of mantas have been eradicated worldwide, but some populations have been decimated by as much as 80%. 1/160, f2.2, ISO 200 at 4.73mm
